Virginia Fresh Match Director of Operations

Sam Hedges graduated from the University of the South with a BA in Religion and zero essential food skills. He found himself working on educational farms, restaurants, kitchens, and organic veggie farms in the ensuing decade, and, by the time he came to Virginia Fresh Match, knew a lot more about food than religion. He was inspired by the changes he saw as a farm vendor at Albuquerque’s downtown farmers market: once the market started accepting SNAP, his customer base become markedly more diverse in color, history and food traditions. He saw the profound connection between food production and access work and understood the importance of local food systems to all people, regardless of income. Sam brings his passion for supporting farmers and customers to Virginia Fresh Match.
