Project Description
Cheryl owns a home in Petersburg with her husband Troy. She has been the Manager of River Street Market in Petersburg since July 2017. She is a State Certified Horticulturist and Master Gardener. Cheryl started at farmers markets while working for Agriberry Farm in 2016. She was also a customer of the CSA Seasonal Roots for many years and that’s where she got the “bug” for local food. She planned to become a Farmers Market Manager before there was one in her city by applying for the certification course in 2017 but it was full. So, Cheryl completed the course in spring 2018. Also in 2018 she also managed the Birdhouse Farmers Market in Richmond which was one of nine markets to participate in Market Metrics Research. Cheryl is looking forward to using her experiences with data collection and Virginia Fresh Match to improve markets across the Southside Region.
Cheryl is also on the board for the Petersburg Healthy Community Action Team which has received a grant for 32k each year for 4 years to work on local, healthy food access and childhood obesity in the city. She is currently a horticulture technician for an interior plantscaping company and is looking for more local markets in her region!
